Heeled by Leweb’s concierge

I’ve had the odd problem at LeWeb before – like getting stranded at the venue, with little choice but to walk back to my hotel. Yesterday, this happened:

Lonely heel seeks shoes

I was perturbed, to say the least. I was hoping the rest of the shoe would hold together long enough for me to get to the shops and acquire a new pair. Obviously, I tweeted about this tragedy:

LeWeb has a concierge? Who knew? Well, clearly the social media team. Probably the VIPs as well. But I’d never encountered him before. Still, it was worth a try, surely? I e-mailed, and then called after a prompt from LeWeb on Twitter, and a charming French chap turned up – and took my shoe away. And that left me like this:

Now, I was really nervous. I had visions of myself hopping to the Metro, hopping through the streets of Paris, suffering gallic disdain for my strange British ways. But no, he came back. And my shoes were fixed:

I think I can safely say I’ve never been so glad to see a Frenchman in my life. So, three cheers for the LeWeb concierge. He heeled me:

Café Wawrinka

On croit parfois avoir tout vu. Et puis non. Les champions ne sont décidément pas à court d’innovations. La preuve avec Stan Wawrinka, vendredi soir, à Bercy. C’était l’image du jour vendredi à Bercy. Sans doute même l’image de la semaine et une des plus cocasses de l’année. Il était 23h26 et Stan Wawrinka et Rafael Nadal étaient encore dans le premier set de leur match quand le Suisse a commandé… un café, qui lui a été apporté au changement de côté. Et sur un plateau, s’il vous plait !
Il faut dire qu’il fallait bien ça pour rester éveillé. Après trois premiers quarts de finale très accrochés, Stan Wawrinka et Rafael Nadal ont démarré leur rencontre aux alentours de 23 heures. Room service, comme à l’hôtel ! L’effet a en tout cas été immédiat pour le Vaudois : alors qu’il comptait un break de retard, il a, après sa pause café, remonté son handicap. Entre son short improbable à Roland-Garros et son café à Bercy, Stan the man n’aura pas seulement marqué Paris de son talent cette année. Il aura aussi offert des images insolites. Il fallait se réveiller un peu… “L’arbitre m’a même dit que je pouvais commander un club-sandwich. J’aurais peut-être dû demander un gin tonic” a déclaré le Suisse en conférence de presse à l’issue de sa victoire (7-6, 7-6). Laurent VERGNE @laurentvergne
